Modeling Adaptive Autonomous Agents
نویسنده
چکیده
One category of researchers in arti cial life is concerned with modeling and building so-called adaptive autonomous agents. Autonomous agents are systems that inhabit a dynamic, unpredictable environment in which they try to satisfy a set of time-dependent goals or motivations. Agents are said to be adaptive if they improve their competence at dealing with these goals based on experience. Autonomous agents constitute a new approach to the study of arti cial intelligence (AI) which is highly inspired by biology, in particular ethology, the study of animal behavior. Research in autonomous agents has brought about a new wave of excitement into the eld of AI. This paper re ects on the state of the art of this new approach. It attempts to extract its main ideas, evaluates what contributions have been made so far and identi es its current limitations and open problems.

Adaptive Neural Network Method for Consensus Tracking of High-Order Mimo Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems
This paper is concerned with the consensus tracking problem of high order MIMO nonlinear multi-agent systems. The agents must follow a leader node in presence of unknown dynamics and uncertain external disturbances. The communication network topology of agents is assumed to be a fixed undirected graph. A distributed adaptive control method is proposed to solve the consensus problem utilizing re...
متن کاملIntelligent Auto pilot Design for a Nonlinear Model of an Autonomous Helicopter by Adaptive Emotional Approach
There is a growing interest in the modeling and control of model helicopters using nonlinear dynamic models and nonlinear control. Application of a new intelligent control approach called Brain Emotional Learning Based Intelligent Controller (BELBIC) to design autopilot for an autonomous helicopter is addressed in this paper. This controller is applied to a nonlinear model of a helicopter. This...
متن کاملReview of Pattie Maes : Modeling Adaptive Autonomous Agents
Modeling Adaptive Autonomous Agents by Fred Hinton Abstract This paper will examine and compare the recent autonomous agent architectures (behavior-based/bottom-up architectures) as defined by Pattie Maes from the work done by Brooks, Wilson, and Meyer against the more traditional AI architectures (knowledgebased/top-down architectures). This will be followed by an analysis and comparison of th...
متن کاملIntegrated Dynamical Intelligence for Interactive Embodied Agents
For embodied agents that interact with people in time-sensitive applications, such as robot assistants or autonomous characters in video games, effectiveness can depend on responsive and adaptive behavior in dynamic environments. To support such behavior, agents’ cognitive and physical systems can be modeled in a single, shared language of dynamical systems, an integrated design that supports p...
متن کاملAgent-based computational economics: modeling economies as complex adaptive systems
Agent-based computational economics (ACE) is the computational study of economies modeled as evolving systems of autonomous interacting agents. Thus, ACE is a specialization to economics of the basic complex adaptive systems paradigm. This paper outlines the main objectives and defining characteristics of the ACE methodology, and discusses several active research areas. 2002 Elsevier Science In...
